Riot Games is a video game company owned by Tencent, which is the parent company of Hypixel Studios.
History[]
Riot Games was founded in September 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill.[1]
The company's first game, League of Legends, was released on 27 October 2009 after six months of beta testing.[1]
Riot Games was partially acquired by Tencent in February 2011 and fully acquired in December 2015.[2]
In October 2019, several new games were announced: an eponymous standalone mobile version of the Teamfight Tactics mode from League of Legends, a digital collectible card game (Legends of Runeterra), and a port of League of Legends to mobile devices and consoles (League of Legends: Wild Rift).[3]
Riot Games acquired Hypixel Studios on 16 April 2020.[4][5] Prior to this acquisition, Hypixel Studios had been funded by Riot Games ever since its foundation.[5]
