Blocks are the basic structures in Hytale. The textures for all blocks are 32 pixels in length, width and height. When a block is interacted with, it can produce particle effects.

Types[ | ]

The most basic form of a block in Hytale is a plain cube with a texture defined for each face. Blocks can also use models and textures from the Hytale Model Maker. Blocks can also be a storage place. Hybrid models are also available by combining the basic block texture with custom models created using the model maker.[1]

Full blocks[ | ]

Full blocks are blocks that are 1×1×1 in size.

Slabs[ | ]

Slabs are half-height blocks that can be placed vertically or horizontally without taking up the full block of space.[2]

  • Quartzite slabs
  • Stone slabs

Stairs[ | ]

Stairs are fraction-sized blocks that can have corner variations. They can allow for more subtle tapered edges than what is possible with full blocks.[2]

  • Stone stairs

Beams[ | ]

Beams are post-like blocks which attach to the center of blocks, which allow narrow connections between surfaces.[2]

Walls[ | ]

"Walls" redirects here. For the minigame, see The Walls.

Wall blocks are similar to beams but can only be placed vertically. Walls can be used to create fences and railings that are thinner than a regular block allows.

Roofs[ | ]

Roofs are a sophisticated block type that have a sloping surface which can be used to create detailed rooftops. There are many different roof pieces, including multiple angled variations.[3] Roofs take up 1–2 blocks of space and can be rotated when placed.

Storage blocks[ | ]

Storage blocks are blocks that can store items.

  • Barrels
  • Bookshelves
  • Chests
  • Closets
  • Double chests
  • Item shelves
  • Jars
  • Presents
  • Rotten barrels
  • Stone caskets
  • Treasure chests
  • Wood cases

Designed blocks[ | ]

Some blocks like stone can have different designs applied to them.[2]

Submerged blocks[ | ]

Non-solid blocks can be submerged underwater, having the water fill up the empty spaces in the block. Whether a block can be submerged or not can be set in the block's configuration file.[1] It is not known if blocks will be able to be submerged in lava or any other liquids.

Plants[ | ]

Plant blocks don't use solid textures but instead use a 2D texture which intersects itself. Each time the texture is copied it is rotated to give variation.[1] Decorative elements such as ivy can be attached to any surface to add detail.[2]

Animations[ | ]

Interactive[ | ]

Some blocks will animate when they are interacted with. For example, doors will swing open using a smooth animation. Doors, trapdoors, chests, lanterns, and levers can all be animated. Custom interactions can be created using mods.[1]

Ambient[ | ]

Blocks can have ambient animations applied to them, which will make the block permanently animate to create dynamic environments.

Texture modification[ | ]

Block textures can be changed in-game without having to reload all assets.[4]

Tinting[ | ]

All blocks can be tinted using any color on the RGB spectrum.[1]

Transition textures[ | ]

Blocks can have transition textures to create a smooth transition between different block types. These textures are defined on a per-block basis and have a set list of valid blocks to transition into.[1]
